Senior Software Engineer - Data Technologies Pipelines

As a Senior Software Engineer in Data Technologies Pipelines, you will help scale Bloomberg's data ingestion and processing platform (DTP) built on Kubernetes. You will own feature development end-to-end for event-driven pipelines and contribute to reliability, observability, and developer experience across the data stack. You’ll work with Python/Go, Kafka, and cloud-native services to enable billions of events per day. This role offers impact across Bloomberg Engineering and Data, with a focus on scalable, maintainable production systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements and operational excellence.

• Design, build, test, and operate infrastructure and platform features for event-driven data pipelines
• Develop simple, reliable abstractions over distributed infrastructure across the stack
• Own systems end-to-end from problem identification to production rollout and on-call support
• Identify gaps, write proposals, and communicate trade-offs with teams across Bloomberg
• Enhance operational excellence through testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and post-incident learning

• 4+ years of backend engineering in Python, Go, or similar language; occasional frontend contributions
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field, or equivalent work experience
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining distributed systems in production
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures using Kafka or equivalent technologies
• Strong Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and production debugging skills
• Product mindset with focus on user impact and developer experience
• Clear written and verbal communication, including design docs and incident follow-ups
