Overview

In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will help design and build the next generation of DataHub, Bloomberg’s data experience layer. You’ll craft full-stack interfaces, APIs, and control-plane systems that enable engineers to discover, understand, access, provision, query, publish, and operate datasets safely at scale. You will shape experiences around data discovery, semantic context, lineage, and AI-assisted workflows. This role blends frontend and backend work with a strong focus on reliability, usability, and developer productivity, in a mission to make data more discoverable and usable for Bloomberg engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Build production-grade product experiences for data-oriented engineers
  • Design and implement full-stack workflows across React-based interfaces, APIs, and backend services
  • Create control-plane systems to simplify complex data infrastructure
  • Apply design thinking to workflows to improve UX and reliability
  • Shape experiences around data discovery, cataloging, schemas, lineage, and AI-assisted workflows
  • Provide product-minded engineering judgment on API design, latency, observability, and safety
  • Support data portals, notebooks, query tools, programmable workflows, and agentic interfaces
  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to platform direction
Key requirements
  • Strong professional software engineering experience building production systems
  • Experience building frontend applications with React, Vue, or similar
  • Backend experience in Java, Kotlin, Scala, Go, or equivalent
  • Solid knowledge of distributed systems, Linux, networking, APIs, service reliability, or data infrastructure
  • Experience owning features or services end-to-end from design to operation
  • Product-minded engineering judgment and ability to translate user needs into reliable software
  • Good design taste with clear workflows, useful defaults, fast feedback, and safe automation
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience
