Overview

In this role you will deliver production-grade, full-stack software for a key government programme, sustaining existing systems while delivering new capabilities. You will work closely with engineers, architects and testers to ensure quality and timely delivery in Agile sprints. You guide peers, make scoped technical decisions, and help safeguard the build, deployment and security processes. This position offers impact on critical national infrastructure and cross-functional collaboration within a mission-driven team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop backend services and REST APIs using Java
  • Build modern SPA front-ends with React/TypeScript (or equivalents)
  • Contribute to full-stack delivery and code reviews
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and build integrity
  • Write unit and integration tests; support test automation
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance
  • Collaborate with architects, testers and stakeholders to verify software
  • Support Agile delivery including planning, estimation and backlog refinement
  • Ensure code quality and adherence to security scanning practices
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Java (8 and modern versions such as 17 and 21)
  • REST API design and implementation
  • Modern SPA development with React/TypeScript, Angular, or Vue
  • Strong design pattern knowledge and structured development approach
  • Experience delivering complex production changes
  • Unit and integration testing
  • Familiarity with Agile processes
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo) or equivalents; CI/CD concepts
  • Security scanning processes
  • Effective communication with peers and stakeholders
  • Mentoring and coaching of less experienced engineers
  • Collaborative team player
  • Java 8+; modern Java versions (17/21)
  • REST API design and implementation
  • React/TypeScript, Angular, or Vue for SPA
