Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Rightmove, you will shape and deliver self-serving platform features that help customers manage portfolios and navigate the site. You will work with cross-functional teams to build scalable, high-performance solutions for millions of users, balancing new features with technical debt. Responsibilities
  • Design and implement new features and enhancements using Java 17+ and the listed tech stack
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on priorities
  • Take ownership of technical decisions and deliver projects end-to-end
  • Balance feature development with technical debt and make pragmatic trade-offs
  • Write secure, extensible code that supports current and future needs
  • Communicate with stakeholders and third parties to meet business objectives
  • Promote and integrate new technologies that add value and align with roadmaps
  • Mentor and support junior engineers to foster growth and ownership
Key requirements
  • Strong commercial experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Kafka
  • Led complex projects with cross-engineer coordination
  • Collaborative, organized, and solution-focused mindset
  • Deep understanding of TDD and pipeline optimization (left-shifting)
  • Ability to balance technical priorities with business OKRs
  • Passion for performance and scalability and understanding user behavior
  • Proactive in introducing new ideas, technologies, and ways of working
