Overview

In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will own sizable, impactful backend projects within Wise’s Global KYC and Onboarding domain. You’ll shape the technical roadmap, build scalable microservices, and ensure compliance with risk systems. You’ll collaborate across cross-functional teams to balance regulatory requirements with customer experience at scale. This is a chance to influence how we verify identity and enable global money movement with reliability and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Own the technical roadmap for your areas, addressing debt, reliability, scalability, and security
  • Design and implement robust backend systems with clean APIs to hide internal complexity
  • Drive integration with risk and mitigation systems to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Identify and solve impactful problems across teams, contributing to cross-team initiatives
  • Deliver end-to-end verification journeys that improve user experience while maintaining controls
Key requirements
  • 4+ years of experience with Java 8+, Spring framework
  • Experience with asynchronous message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and architecting scalable microservices
  • Strong product mindset with focus on customer experience and regulatory compliance
  • Data-driven decision-making and ability to solve complex problems with ambiguity
  • Exceptional communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Commitment to clean, testable, maintainable, high-performance code and code reviews
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including performance tuning and data lifecycle management
