Overview

In this role you will design and build scalable, high-performance applications using Java and JavaScript within Elsevier’s Identity & Access Management team. You’ll contribute to a resilient authentication and authorization platform that integrates with providers and APIs on AWS (ECS/EKS). You will influence cross-functional software products, mentor teammates, and shape development and deployment practices. This opportunity offers impact through shaping security-critical infrastructure and collaborating across squads.

Responsibilities
  • Finalize requirements with technical peers and translate them into software designs
  • Contribute to detailed specifications for complex components and review code
  • Fix complex bugs and drive CI/CD and deployment practices
  • Define and implement logging, instrumentation, and alerting requirements
  • Collaborate with teammates to translate product requirements into designs
  • Mentor junior developers and promote development methodologies and code reviews
  • Support pair programming and knowledge transfer across the squad
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall) and work with stakeholders
Key requirements
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall)
  • Intermediate proficiency with data manipulation and optimization techniques
  • Intermediate understanding of data modelling principles (normalized/dimensional)
  • Experience with multiple data storage subsystems
  • Proficiency in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows, Unix
  • Experience with identity providers (Keycloak, Auth0) including realm configuration and OIDC client setup
  • Proficient research skills and knowledge of development best practices
  • Ability to write and review specifications for complex components
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Test-driven development knowledge
  • Ability to handle complex bug fixes
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools is a plus
