In this role you will design and build scalable, high-performance applications using Java and JavaScript within Elsevier’s Identity & Access Management team. You’ll contribute to a resilient authentication and authorization platform that integrates with providers and APIs on AWS (ECS/EKS). You will influence cross-functional software products, mentor teammates, and shape development and deployment practices. - Finalize requirements with technical peers and translate them into software designs
- Contribute to detailed specifications for complex components and review code
- Fix complex bugs and drive CI/CD and deployment practices
- Define and implement logging, instrumentation, and alerting requirements
- Collaborate with teammates to translate product requirements into designs
- Mentor junior developers and promote development methodologies and code reviews
- Support pair programming and knowledge transfer across the squad
- Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall) and work with stakeholders
- Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall)
- Intermediate proficiency with data manipulation and optimization techniques
- Intermediate understanding of data modelling principles (normalized/dimensional)
- Experience with multiple data storage subsystems
- Proficiency in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows, Unix
- Experience with identity providers (Keycloak, Auth0) including realm configuration and OIDC client setup
- Proficient research skills and knowledge of development best practices
- Ability to write and review specifications for complex components
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Test-driven development knowledge
- Ability to handle complex bug fixes
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools is a plus
