Overview

In this role you will help build scalable, modern web applications used by millions of researchers. You will work within a cross-functional engineering team at ScienceDirect, adopting AI-assisted development practices to speed delivery while maintaining code quality. You’ll translate design concepts into responsive UIs and collaborate with UX teams to create accessible experiences. You’ll shape development workflows that responsibly integrate AI tools to boost productivity and software quality. This is a hands-on frontend role with impact on core product delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Develop modern responsive web applications as part of a cross-functional, agile team
  • Implement intuitive UIs using React and ensure accessibility and performance across devices
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to convert designs into functioning web apps
  • Optimize applications for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to design, implement, refactor, and debug software
  • Evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs to meet engineering and quality standards
  • Help evolve AI-supported development workflows and best practices
  • Write well-tested, documented, and peer-reviewed code
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and QA to ensure alignment with user and business needs
  • Contribute to CI/CD, testing, and code review practices
  • Support growth of the London engineering team through collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in recruitment and onboarding efforts to grow the team
Key requirements
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript proficiency
  • Experience building modern web apps with React
  • Experience with Node.js, Express, or related backend services
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with agile practices: TDD, Pair Programming, CI, automated testing and deployment
