Overview
As a Backend Software Engineer in the Pricing Core team, you will shape the main pricing platform that powers Wise’s products. You’ll design and build scalable, high-throughput services in Java with Spring Boot on AWS, enabling reliable pricing across distributed systems. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to improve performance, reliability, and observability while handling production incidents in a Tier 1 environment. This role offers meaningful impact on pricing at scale and a chance to influence architectural decisions in a fast-paced fintech setting.

- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services in Java with Spring Boot on AWS
- Build and maintain event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for asynchronous processing
- Drive architectural decisions to ensure quality, reliability, and observability
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt
- Participate in on-call rotations to monitor production incidents for Tier 1 services
- Conduct code reviews to ensure security and engineering standards
- Strong software engineering background with impact on large projects
- Experience with Java (or similar OOP language)
- Ability to design for long-term iteration and scale
- Ownership of availability, reliability, and security of systems
- Ability to balance speed, scalability, and risk with regular delivery cadence
