Senior Software Engineer I - Receive

In this role you will design and build a fraud engine to enable fast, secure reception of payments across Wise’s acquiring products. You will collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Fraud teams to balance user experience with strong risk controls, supporting scaling and rapid delivery. The role focuses on creating high-performance, low-latency backend systems that handle large traffic safely. You will contribute to Wise’s mission of moving money without borders by reducing fraud and enabling trusted, seamless transactions.

• Build and evolve a fraud engine to ship new products and features quickly while managing risk and cost
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Fraud Prevention Analysts and Fraud agents to balance speed, scalability and security
• Develop distributed, high-performance backend services supporting large-scale traffic
• Ensure reliability and maintainability of microservices and messaging systems
• Integrate with acquiring products such as QuickPay, Payment links, Invoices, and e-commerce workflows

• Hands-on experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Proven ability to deliver high-performance, low-latency backend systems
• Product-oriented mindset with end-to-end ownership
• Proficiency in Java (preferred) or similar backend languages
• Familiarity with Kafka or RabbitMQ and solid knowledge of SQL
