Overview

In this role you will architect, scale, and optimize data pipelines on a Lakehouse stack to support financial reporting and assurance for Wise. You’ll work within the Data Onboarding team to transform raw event data into audit-ready, subledger-and-milver level data, collaborating with finance and product stakeholders. You’ll tackle high-throughput processing, data quality, and infrastructure efficiency to enable fast, reliable financial truth across the organization. This is a chance to shape data infrastructure that underpins Wise’s mission of money without borders. You will lead by example, mentor peers, and drive engineering excellence in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines on the Trino + Iceberg Lakehouse stack
  • Own extraction, cleaning, and modeling to progressively refine raw logs (Bronze) into verified subledgers (Silver) and Gold metrics
  • Maintain data freshness with Kafka-based streaming and real-time computation models
  • Embed automated reconciliation checks (e.g., balance, double-entry validations) to ensure data quality before reporting
  • Collaborate with finance controllers, analysts, product, and engineering to translate finance needs into production data schemas
  • Address data scaling constraints and optimize compute costs in line with Wise’s financial targets
  • Mentor and review code/technical design for mid-level and junior engineers
Key requirements
  • Data Lakehouse mastery with Trino/Presto and Iceberg or Delta Lake
  • Advanced data modeling skills including Medallion Architecture, Star Schemas, and semi-structured data (JSON/Avro)
  • Strong ETL/ELT tooling experience with dbt and orchestration (Airflow)
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or Java/Scala
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and Apache Kafka
  • Strong ownership mindset
