Software Engineer – Securities Lending Platform
London | TEMP / INTERIM | Junior / Mid-Level | Hybrid
We are recruiting a Software Engineer to join a growing technology team building a new real-time, event-driven trading platform covering securities lending, repo and derivatives.
This is a genuine software engineering role with a particular focus on trade lifecycle, settlement connectivity and workflow automation.
You will work across Java and Python development, integrations and event-driven processing, gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of a modern financial-markets platform.
The platform has two core objectives:
- Workflow automation – streamlining reconciliation, risk management, reporting and settlement processes
- Front-to-back integration – consolidating the trading lifecycle into a unified platform
What you'll be doing
- Developing Java server-side and UI components
- Building Python ETL and automation pipelines
- Developing integrations with external vendors and financial systems
- Helping build connectivity into settlement and post-trade infrastructure
- Supporting automated trade and settlement workflows, including T+1 processing
- Working with APIs, messaging technologies and data feeds
- Developing event-driven components using Kafka
- Working with traders, operations and other engineers to deliver new functionality
- Testing, troubleshooting and improving production applications
- Contributing to the ongoing design of a new platform being built from the ground up
Technology
You may be an established mid-level developer or a strong junior engineer ready to take on more responsibility.
We are looking for:
- Good commercial knowledge of Java and/or Python
- Java is preferred, although strong Python developers with a solid Java foundation will also be considered
- Practical experience with relational databases and SQL
- Comfortable working with Linux
- Good software-development fundamentals
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
- APIs and external-system integrations
- Kafka or other messaging technologies
- AWS or another major cloud environment
- SWIFT or settlement connectivity
- Trade processing or post-trade technology
- Repo
- Capital markets
Financial-markets experience is useful but not essential if you have strong software-engineering fundamentals.
This is a strong opportunity for an ambitious engineer to join a growing team at an early stage of a significant new platform build.
You’ll receive mentoring from experienced engineers while gaining exposure to modern technologies, financial markets and the complete development lifecycle.
