Overview

As a Backend Software Engineer at Engine by Starling, you help evolve a scalable fintech platform used by banks worldwide. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and improvements, shaping the engine that powers banking-as-a-service. You’ll lead or contribute to projects, share knowledge, and own outcomes in a learning-driven, engineering-led environment. This role offers impact at scale, with a mission to change banking for good.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects or domains within the Engine team and platform
  • Contribute to the award-winning platform and internal tooling
  • Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way
  • Share knowledge to foster a learning culture
  • Own your projects and collaborate across the bank to deliver

Key requirements
  • Proficiency in Java (main backend language)
  • Cloud-native mindset with AWS & GCP
  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • Kubernetes (EKS)
  • CI/CD with TeamCity and multiple production releases
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform
  • Monitoring/observability with Grafana
  • Aptitude and attitude over formal qualifications
