As a Senior Software Engineer on the Payments Platform, you will design and evolve high-volume, secure payment services that power purchases across M&S digital channels. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, scalable backend capabilities and drive engineering excellence. You will own features end-to-end, shaping the technical direction of a critical platform that underpins online growth. Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and evolve payment services enabling seamless transactions across digital platforms.
  • Develop resilient backend services, APIs, and integrations for millions of payment journeys each year.
  • Own features end-to-end, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Shape the payments platform’s technical direction with emphasis on performance, scalability, security, and cost.
  • Champion engineering excellence through clean, maintainable, and well-tested code and best practices.
  • Drive operational excellence by building observability, monitoring, resilience, and supportability into systems.
  • Utilise Dynatrace to improve platform visibility, monitoring, and service reliability.
Key requirements
  • Senior backend software engineer with experience delivering scalable, resilient systems in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong Java expertise with enterprise services, APIs, and distributed integrations.
  • Experience designing systems for large user populations with high availability, performance, and security.
  • Experience in ecommerce, payment services, or highly transactional systems is advantageous.
  • Passion for software quality, testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, observability, production support, and operational excellence.
