Senior Software Engineer - Recommend Team (Java)

Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer on Wise’s Recommend team in London, you will scale the recommendation platform and reward mechanisms that drive new customer acquisition. You’ll build systems, APIs, and product experiences that shape the first international money experience for users. The role collaborates with a cross-functional team to create a smooth onboarding journey for referred customers and engaging rewards, delivering a delightful, data-driven customer experience. You will own end-to-end initiatives that impact customers worldwide and contribute to Wise’s mission of making money move faster and cheaper.
Responsibilities- Evolve and scale the recommendation platform and rewards systems for a global user base
- Build systems, APIs, and product experiences that influence the first customer experience
- Develop and improve referral platforms and onboarding flows for referred customers
- Own end-to-end projects from design to delivery to meet business goals
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers and other product teams to ship features
- 5+ years of experience in Java or Kotlin (or other JVM language)
- Strong experience with Spring framework, relational databases, distributed and concurrent systems (Kafka)
- Excellent collaboration with cross-functional teams on a daily basis
- Experience writing testable code and testing strategies (unit, integration)
- Good coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback culture
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
- Product-minded with a focus on customer experience and data-driven decision making
- Ability to work independently and take end-to-end ownership of projects
