Senior Software Engineer - Risk & FX

Overview

In this role you will design, build, and maintain mission-critical FX trading services within Visa’s Currency Cloud platform. You’ll join the FXRA team responsible for core FX trading, pricing, risk, and market data components. The work emphasizes high-throughput, low-latency systems that process large FX transactions in real time, leveraging cloud-native microservices. You will mentor engineers, champion best practices, and collaborate with Treasury, Trading, and Platform teams to deliver business value at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain FX trading services including pricing engines, risk management, and market data providers
  • Integrate real-time FX market data from providers via FIX
  • Design high-throughput, low-latency services handling billions in FX transactions
  • Lead technical discussions on hexagonal architecture, event-driven patterns, and distributed systems
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish team best practices
  • Own domain end-to-end with clear service boundaries and independent deployment paths
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Trading, and Platform teams across the organization

Key requirements
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years building microservices with Java
  • Proficient in Ruby or Scala (reading)
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (MySQL)
  • Experience designing event-based and streaming solutions with Kafka
  • Experience building applications that run in Kubernetes
  • Hands-on production-grade code delivery
  • Experience managing contractors and outsource teams
  • Experience in financial software, especially risk, is beneficial
  • Agile experience and multi-language proficiency; strong SQL skills
  • DevOps experience or willingness to work in a DevOps environment
  • Proven track record of delivering well-tested, scalable, fault-tolerant solutions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration in distributed, scale-up environments
