Senior Software Engineer - Runtime Platform, Robot Software

wayve

London · Greater London · United Kingdom

Overview

In this role you design and evolve the onboard runtime stack for Wayve’s autonomous vehicle software. You will build shared onboard frameworks, lifecycle management, and monitoring to support cross-vehicle software development and performance optimization. You’ll push the latency, throughput, and reliability of the onboard stack as it expands to new platforms. You collaborate across teams to turn performance data into architectural decisions and establish reusable runtime capabilities that scale with the company’s mission.

Pay / Benefits
  • Salaries benchmarked against market
  • Equity / ownership
  • Relocation support and visa sponsorship
  • Hybrid working with core hours
  • Learning and development budgets
  • Comprehensive benefits including health/dental and parental leave
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain shared onboard application frameworks and developer interfaces
  • Develop application lifecycle management, health monitoring, fault reporting, and runtime diagnostics
  • Evolve communication middleware for high-throughput, low-latency inter-process communication across platforms
  • Investigate latency and performance bottlenecks across the onboard software stack
  • Instrument software with profiling tools and metrics to identify optimisation opportunities
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand performance pain points and prioritise improvements by impact
  • Work with internal teams and middleware suppliers to resolve integration issues and publish shared APIs, documentation, and best practices
  • Ports and integrations across new operating systems, vehicle compute, and hardware platforms
  • Observability infrastructure for logs, metrics, traces, and fleet-level performance analysis
Key requirements
  • Strong software-development experience in C++
  • Proficiency with performance-profiling tools and techniques to locate bottlenecks
  • Methodical approach to designing experiments and evaluating results
  • Strong foundation in OS scheduling, computer architecture, memory hierarchy, CPU caches, context switching, and thread synchronisation
  • Experience developing or maintaining middleware, application frameworks, or shared runtime services
  • Ability to design maintainable interfaces and enable multiple teams to adopt shared components
  • Capability to translate performance data into architectural and optimisation decisions
  • Deep experience with communication middleware or application-framework design (valued)
  • Experience porting systems software across OS/hardware platforms, building automated performance benchmarks in CI, or using NVIDIA tools (Nsight, Lumos, tegrastat) (relevant)
  • Familiarity with Grafana, Databricks, Datadog, QNX, or Momentics (plus)
  • 跨团队协作与良好沟通
