Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Safety Detection Precision team, you’ll shape end-to-end safety detection systems and triage workflows. You’ll improve detection accuracy, identify ambiguous cases, and automate triage to translate insights into real-world risk reduction. You will collaborate with product, design, and ML teams to close gaps between AI detections and coaching opportunities. This is a mission-driven role at scale, impacting customer trust and safety across Samsara’s safety products.

- Build and evolve core systems that review safety detections and decide what is surfaced to customers
- Improve detection precision by smartly handling ambiguous cases and automating triage
- Work at the intersection of backend systems, data, and AI-driven decisioning to enhance product quality and efficiency
- Partner with product, design, AI, and ML infra to feed real-world outcomes back into better model feedback loops
- Own complex projects end-to-end from design through production rollout, measurement, and iteration
- Apply AI-assisted engineering workflows pragmatically to accelerate prototyping, debugging, and iteration while maintaining quality
- Raise the bar for quality, operability, and engineering clarity in a critical part of Samsara’s Safety platform
- 4+ years of software development experience, primarily in backend or distributed systems
- Experience on a product engineering team shipping systems that solve real customer problems
- Ability to connect technical decisions to customer value and outcomes
- AI-first engineering approach using modern AI tooling to improve efficiency and code quality
- Strong programming fundamentals with production experience in at least one modern language
- Experience building large-scale, high-throughput systems
- Experience operating in a data-led environment and strong cross-functional communication skills
