Senior Software Engineer (Typescript), AI Clients: Duo CLI

In this role you will shape the GitLab Duo CLI and its ecosystem, delivering AI-assisted terminal experiences for developers. You’ll influence long-term direction and ensure high quality, performance, and reliability across the CLI and related tooling. You work with cross-functional teams to align architectural choices with GitLab’s broader strategy. You’ll mentor others and champion security and developer experience as the product grows. • Own the design, development, and evolution of GitLab Duo CLI features from problem definition to rollout and iteration
• Build interactive terminal experiences in TypeScript with careful command/flag design, output formatting, and backward compatibility
• Improve reliability, observability, and performance of the CLI while reducing technical debt
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineers to align decisions with GitLab's strategy
• Champion product quality, security, and developer experience through reviews and mentorship
• Contribute to IDE extension work (JetBrains plugin in Kotlin and VS Code extension in TypeScript)

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript
• Experience building or maintaining command-line tools or developer tooling
• Experience owning technical problems end to end and guiding code reviews/mentorship
• Clear written and spoken English; comfortable in remote/asynchronous environments
• Alignment with GitLab values and inclusive culture
• Experience with IDE extension development and understanding of LSP is helpful but not required
