Overview

As a Field Engineer at Databricks, you will translate customer data challenges into practical platform solutions. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to showcase the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, drive hands-on evaluation, and guide architects on scalable data architectures. You’ll build trusted advisor relationships, deliver demos, and help customers derive business value from Spark and cloud integration. This role combines technical excellence with customer-facing impact, travel to UK customer sites, and progression toward independent Solutions Architect responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Build successful client relationships in your territory, collaborating with Account Executives and a Senior Solutions Architect to deliver technical and business value
  • Lead hands-on evaluations and Spark-based demonstrations, integrating with cloud ecosystems and third-party apps
  • Contribute to the Databricks technical community through workshops, seminars, and meet-ups
  • Serve as a Big Data Analytics advisor on architecture and design aspects
  • Author reference architectures, how-tos, and demo applications to support customers
  • Develop technical and pre-sales skills with the goal of operating independently as a Solutions Architect
Key requirements
  • Experience in technical customer-facing roles with a background in Data Science / Generative AI / Machine Learning / Data Warehousing / Data Engineering
  • Experience across relevant verticals (Entertainment/Media/Telco/Hospitality, Financial Services and Insurance, Retail/CPG)
  • Pre-sales or post-sales experience with external clients
  • Ability to deliver a technical proposition, identify customer pain points, and articulate business value
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala
  • Knowledge of Big Data Analytics domain and exposure to proofs-of-concept and major public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience in solution architecture and design
  • Willingness to travel 20–30% within the UK
  • Nice to have: Databricks Certification
  • Strong client-facing communication
  • Ability to create a compelling narrative for customers
  • Stakeholder management and alignment
  • Python, Java, or Scala programming
