Senior Sql Database Administrator

CPS Group are working with a global IT consultancy who are looking for an experienced Senior SQL Server DBA to primarily support with a key public sector client.

This is an opportunity to work within a large, business-critical Microsoft environment, supporting SQL Server platforms across development, test and production.

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation you will be in the Cardiff office 1-2 times a week.

The Role

  • Manage and support SQL Server databases across multiple environments.
  • Monitor and optimise database performance, including query tuning and indexing.
  • Manage backups, restores, recovery and HA/DR solutions including Always On.
  • Support database security, access controls, auditing and encryption.
  • Work with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Automate administration and maintenance using PowerShell.
  • Support production issues, deployments and database changes.
  • Work closely with development and infrastructure teams, acting as a senior technical escalation point.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience as a SQL Server DBA.
  • Excellent SQL Server administration and performance tuning experience.
  • Experience with Always On / HA/DR, backups and recovery.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server security and encryption.
  • Experience with Azure SQL.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server / Active Directory.
  • Experience of DevOps / CI-CD or Infrastructure as Code would be advantageous.
  • SC clearance or eligibility to obtain SC clearance.
