Overview

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will design and maintain high-performance backend systems powering Databricks workspaces. You’ll shape the platform that serves workspace assets at massive scale, delivering low latency and reliability. You’ll lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and drive cross-team initiatives to improve products and ops. This role offers the chance to influence multi-year platforms, contribute to open-source efforts, and impact data and AI infrastructure used by thousands of organizations.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems powering Databricks workspaces
  • Build a next-generation platform for serving workspace assets with high QPS and low latency
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers
  • Lead complicated technical projects spanning multiple teams and participate in project planning
  • Introduce automation and operability tools to improve service reliability
  • Prevent and investigate production issues and optimize performance on large production clusters
  • Plan and lead architecture design and influence product roadmaps
Key requirements
  • 15+ years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures
  • Experience driving initiatives toward customer satisfaction
  • Comfort with multi-year vision and incremental delivery
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related majors, or equivalent experience
