Overview

In this Senior Sustainability Consultant role, you will lead the development and delivery of sustainability strategies for major infrastructure and development projects within Arup’s Environment, Climate and Sustainability Services portfolio. You work with multidisciplinary teams to embed sustainability into design, procurement, construction and operation phases, guiding frameworks, audits, and regulatory interfaces. You will shape client solutions, manage deliverables and budgets, and share knowledge through workshops and training. This is a chance to influence projects at scale and advance sustainable outcomes across communities.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver sustainability strategies and implementation plans for design, procurement, construction and operation stages
  • Lead sustainability frameworks, appraisals and auditing of design/construction contractors (e.g., ISO 14001)
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and external authorities; ensure quality and budget control
  • Develop environmental and sustainability recommendations for project delivery teams and clients
  • Manage environmental deliverables and coordinate virtual topic-specialist teams
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, workshops and training for teams and clients
  • Assist with proposal preparation, budgeting, resource planning and scheduling
  • Act as environmental sustainability representative in project delivery to embed sustainability across major infrastructure and planning projects
Key requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Climate Change, Environmental Engineering/Management or Geography
  • Practitioner or Full Member of ISEP or equivalent
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Environmentalist
  • ISEP Registered Environmental Auditor advantageous
  • Qualified or desire to become a qualified BREEAM Infrastructure Project Assessor
  • Experience delivering sustainability aspects of strategy, design and construction for major infrastructure or master planning projects
  • Knowledge of UK legislation and Environmental Impact Assessment; ability to write/edit reports
  • Awareness of PAS2080 carbon management in infrastructure or similar
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
