In this Senior Systems Engineer role, you drive technical solutions for Advanced Energy Management Systems to support Scotland’s grid modernization. You will set standards, design architectures, and work with delivery teams to ensure robust, compliant real-time systems. You’ll collaborate across networks, cybersecurity, and operations teams to deliver fully operable designs aligned with strategic goals. - Act as technical authority for AEMS projects, defining standards and validating delivered solutions
- Produce comprehensive solution designs balancing technical excellence with operational needs
- Collaborate with Network Planning, Regulation, and other internal teams to ensure aligned technical and operational outcomes
- Engage with Cybersecurity to maintain security architecture compliance and work with Smart Grid Operations on telecoms, infrastructure, and RTS
- Support systems design activities and ensure adherence to Group standards; streamline project delivery processes
- Contribute to business case development outlining costs, benefits, and delivery approaches
- Provide technical assistance throughout project delivery with clear stakeholder communication
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure on-time, on-budget performance
- Contribute to architectural planning to align plans and budgets with required investments
- Evaluate new system solutions and technologies to meet emerging customer needs and infrastructure planning
- Degree in electrical, electronic or telecommunication engineering or HND/HNC with five years of relevant experience
- Experience with Smart Grid applications or real-time control system development
- Knowledge of Smart Grid Electrical Control Systems and ADMS/SCADA technologies
- Proven track record of design and delivery balancing technical and commercial considerations
- Strong numerical and analytical skills; attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Consultative approach across the business; ability to resolve differences and present unified views
- Experience working with external vendors, customers, and stakeholders
- Ability to manage technical, financial, and delivery risks; project management experience desirable
- Driving licence and willingness to travel; experience with Iberdrola group is a plus
