Senior Technical Lead - Vmware Vsphere | Openshift

Location: Sheffield - Hybrid, 2-3 days onsite per week
Contract: 12 months
Rate: Up to £750 per day Inside IR35

We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead to join a major enterprise platform modernisation and migration programme within a large, complex organisation.

The successful candidate must have strong expertise across both VMware vSphere and Red Hat OpenShift, alongside experience leading large-scale technology migration or platform modernisation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and take ownership of a defined technology domain or migration workstream.
• Drive enterprise-scale migration and platform modernisation activities.
• Own technical direction, key decisions and delivery outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on when required .
• Coordinate across engineering, architecture, infrastructure, operations and programme teams.
• Identify and resolve technical blockers, risks and dependencies.
• Lead technical discussions and challenge engineering and architecture decisions constructively.
• Represent the workstream within technical reviews, governance and senior leadership forums.

Essential Experience

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Deep hands-on VMware vSphere experience within large enterprise virtualisation environments.
• Deep hands-on Red Hat OpenShift experience within enterprise container platforms.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes and container technologies .
• Proven experience leading large-scale technology migrations or platform modernisation programmes .
• Experience owning technical delivery rather than operating solely in an advisory or architecture capacity.
• Strong infrastructure/platform engineering knowledge.
• Experience working within large and complex enterprise technology environments.
• Strong technical decision-making, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
