Senior Technical Test Analyst

Sopra Steria Ltd

Cheltenham · England · United Kingdom

At Sopra Steria Aerospace, Defence & Security (ADS), we work on some of the UK's most critical Defence and National Security programmes, delivering technology solutions that help protect the UK and support those responsible for keeping our country safe.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Test Analyst to join our team, working within a highly secure, technically complex environment where the work you do has a real purpose and impact.

This is an opportunity to work on challenging and meaningful programmes, testing complex systems and technologies that underpin mission-critical services. You'll gain exposure to a broad range of technical environments, working closely with Development, Engineering and Architecture teams to ensure solutions are robust, reliable and meet the highest standards of quality.

The role offers a varied mix of hands‑on technical testing, problem-solving and collaboration, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of testing activities, influence best practice and play a key part in delivering successful outcomes. You'll also have the opportunity to share your expertise, support other testers and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing approaches.

We're equally committed to your development. Whether you're looking to deepen your technical testing expertise, gain professional certifications or take the next step in your career, you'll have access to training, development opportunities and a supportive team that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

You’ll also benefit from flexible benefits and excellent career progression opportunities within a business that offers exposure to a wide range of technologies, projects and career pathways.

Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must currently hold active MoD DV clearance and be able to work on site full time.

What you’ll be doing

  • Testing complex, mission‑critical systems, delivering functional and non‑functional testing across integrated technologies to ensure solutions meet technical, operational and quality requirements.
  • Designing and executing detailed test scenarios, analysing complex requirements, system designs and technical specifications to develop effective test cases, expected results and comprehensive test coverage.
  • Delivering system and integration testing, working closely with Development, Engineering and Architecture teams to validate how different applications, platforms and infrastructure components interact.
  • Taking ownership of testing activities, contributing to test plans and approaches, managing test execution, identifying defects and supporting their investigation and resolution.
  • Managing complex testing requirements, including preparing test data, coordinating environments, monitoring progress and producing clear reporting on results, risks and quality.
  • Driving testing standards and continuous improvement, sharing technical knowledge, mentoring colleagues and contributing ideas that enhance testing practices, tools and overall delivery quality.

What you’ll bring

  • A strong background in Technical Testing, with hands‑on experience of system testing, integration testing and validating complex enterprise applications or infrastructure environments.
  • Experience analysing technical requirements and solution designs, translating complex information into structured test scenarios, detailed test cases and effective test coverage.
  • A good understanding of enterprise technologies, including Active Directory, SQL databases, IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms and software monitoring tools.
  • Practical experience of testing integrations between complex systems, investigating defects, analysing results and working with technical teams to resolve issues.
  • Experience using test management and defect tracking tools, with the ability to coordinate testing activities, manage priorities and communicate risks and progress effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, with a proactive approach to delivering quality outcomes and the confidence to share knowledge, support colleagues and promote testing best practice.

It would be great if you had

  • ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst or Technical Test Analyst certification.
  • PRINCE2 Foundation certification or an understanding of structured project delivery methodologies.
  • Experience using test automation tools or contributing to automation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Secure by Design principles, particularly within Defence, Government or other secure environments.

Although this role is advertised as full‑time, we believe that flexibility at work can promote work/life balance, increase your motivation, reduce stress and improves performance and productivity. We support different ways of working and can offer a range of flexible working arrangements. If you’re interested and need to work flexibly, we can discuss what might be possible.
