Overview

In this role you will own Java-based test automation within an agile delivery team, shaping quality across functional, API and UI layers. You will design and build robust automation frameworks from scratch and drive test strategy and coverage with a strong focus on production-like quality. The position sits at the core of transformation-for-clients, partnering with developers and product owners to ensure reliable releases. This is a hands-on, impact-driven opportunity to raise the team’s testing maturity and contribute to a high-quality software lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build and maintain Java-based automation frameworks from scratch with reusable, version-controlled test code
  • Deliver automated coverage across functional, cross-browser, API, integration and acceptance tests, including overnight regression
  • Extend API test suites using Karate or REST-assured and validate service contracts and data integrity
  • Define and execute test strategies and plans with traceability from requirements to test coverage
  • Support development teams to write and automate tests, contributing to test-driven and behavior-driven approaches
  • Perform front-end cross-browser testing, exploratory testing, system integration testing and user acceptance testing as needed
  • Record defects accurately, monitor trends and feed data back to drive continuous improvement
  • Review and improve test environments, CI/CD integration and testing processes to maintain quality across delivery lifecycle
  • Provide test effort estimates and participate in planning with evidence-based testing projections
Key requirements
  • Strong Java skills; ability to design and own Java-based test automation frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cypress or Karate and selecting appropriate tool for context
  • Experience delivering automated test coverage across functional, cross-browser, API, integration and acceptance testing
  • API testing experience with Java-based frameworks and contract testing, request/response validation, authentication flows
  • Ability to work across automated and manual testing disciplines
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and maintaining quality gates
  • Experience in agile/scrum environments and understanding testing within sprints
  • Clear communication to report progress, coverage gaps and defect trends to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • UK residency for five+ years with limited days abroad to meet SC eligibility or current Security Clearance
