Overview

In this Senior Test Engineer role within HMRC’s CDIO Borders & Trade, you lead performance and volume testing across cloud-based systems, helping ensure reliable, scalable live services. Responsibilities
  • Lead planning, design, and execution of Performance & Volume Testing (PVT) and related testing activities
  • Define non-functional test strategies, workload models, and acceptance criteria to mitigate delivery risks
  • Analyze results and infrastructure metrics to identify bottlenecks and service risks, recommending improvements
  • Develop automated performance testing solutions and integrate into CI/CD pipelines
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across the QAT Profession
  • Support OAT, infrastructure testing, resilience, and operational readiness activities

Key requirements
  • Proven experience delivering PVT across complex enterprise environments
  • Experience defining non-functional test strategies, workload models, and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to analyze testing results and operational metrics to identify bottlenecks and risks
  • Automation experience with tools and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Java, or C#) integrated into CI/CD
  • Experience with observability/monitoring platforms (AppDynamics, ELK, Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Kafka)
  • Knowledge of cloud/infrastructure tech (AWS/Azure, Linux, networking, IAM, containers)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience with testing cloud-native/containerised solutions (optional but preferred)
  • ISTQB or equivalent certifications (desirable)
