Overview

As a Senior Traffic Control Engineer, you will lead specialist design and consultancy for traffic control projects across the UK and beyond. You’ll work within the Technology Services team, collaborating with multiple disciplines to deliver end-to-end solutions for public and private sector clients. You’ll shape junction and corridor-level designs, from feasibility through to performance monitoring and assurance. This role offers impactful work on major mobility projects and a clear path to technical leadership in a global infrastructure firm.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist traffic control design and consultancy for internal and external clients
  • Produce design packages including layout drawings, reports, ITS1827 forms, MOVA data sets, and works specifications
  • Contribute to RAMS, hazard logs and technical assurance evidence
  • Provide implementation support through FAT, SAT, MOVA, Bus priority, and SCOOT validation
  • Prepare responses to technical queries, departures, and gate reviews
  • Coordinate with highways, structures, drainage, geotechnical, environment and traffic teams
  • Attend client meetings across the UK and engage with clients
  • Mentor and support junior team members
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards (DMRB, TSM, TSRGD), CDM 2015 and Safe by Design
  • Support programme, cost and risk management; assist bids, estimates and technical proposals
  • Quality-check deliverables against client briefs and AECOM procedures
Key requirements
  • Knowledge of traffic control engineering design standards and implementation processes
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civils3D; experience with ITS1827 forms and MOVA designs
  • NHSS8 / HERS registered
  • Experience in MOVA control and advanced traffic control modes (MOVA / SCOOT)
  • Design experience at junction and corridor level
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients
