As a Service Transition Lead, you drive the end-to-end handover of workloads from HMRC data centres to the AWS platform, ensuring readiness for Run & Operate. You will chair transition reviews and coordinate documentation, testing, and acceptance to enable smooth live operation. Working within AWS Professional Services, you bridge delivery and operational teams to support secure, compliant government cloud transitions. This role offers impact across governance, risk, and continuous improvement of the Run & Operate model.

- Own end-to-end service transition for legacy HMRC workloads migrating to AWS
- Develop and maintain the Service Transition Plan aligned with milestones and contractual obligations
- Define and manage service acceptance criteria with the R&O Lead
- Chair AWS Service Transition Review Boards to approve handovers
- Produce and maintain operational documentation (Runbooks, SOPs, architecture/configuration, monitoring, incident/change, DR/BCP, support and escalation)
- Identify transition risks, dependencies and issues with delivery leads and drive resolution
- Coordinate Early Life Support periods including entry/exit criteria and coverage
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer to the R&O support team with evidence
- Maintain service catalogue and CMDB entries for transitioned services
- Provide regular transition status reports, readiness dashboards and risk registers
- Interface with HMRC stakeholders to ensure customer acceptance and alignment with operational expectations
- Support development and continuous improvement of the R&O operating model for new services
- Experience as a Service Transition Lead or similar in large-scale IT transformation or data centre exit programmes
- Strong ITIL understanding (Service Transition, Service Operation, Continual Service Improvement)
- Experience in AWS/public cloud environments and cloud-native operations
- Experience in a prime contractor model, ideally in UK public sector/government
- Strong documentation and governance skills with ability to define quality standards for handover artefacts
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to lead review boards and drive decisions
- Experience with service acceptance testing and operational readiness assessments
- Familiarity with Agile, PRINCE2 project methodologies
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and DevOps in an operational context
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira or equivalent ITSM tooling
- Eligibility to obtain UK Government Security Clearance
