Overview

In this role you will support the CAST team by configuring and integrating simulation systems (ABACUS/CIS/VBS3) to enable UK military exercises. You will work across multiple sites, train users, and maintain day-to-day IT and engineering support for exercise readiness. The role offers exposure to defence training technology, cross-site collaboration, and opportunities to contribute to national security-focused missions. You will play a hands-on part in shaping realistic training environments and improving exercise outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Configure ABACUS for exercises and provide ABACUS data to MOD users
  • Integrate and tailor systems to match training requirements
  • Conduct system training for military users to ensure competence
  • Provide CAST site coverage and support day-to-day IT operations
  • Support remotely networked CIS exercises at Warminster, Sennelager and offsite locations
  • Liaise with military customers to build scenarios and ensure measurable support
  • Establish consistent processes for CAST support and administration
  • Comply with configuration control procedures and attend required training
  • Be willing to work night shifts when required and champion EHS compliance
  • Undertake additional duties to complete CAST service
Key requirements
  • Cisco routing, switching & VOIP (desirable)
  • Windows Server administration (desirable)
  • Fibre/Copper LAN installation & PC repair (desirable)
  • Knowledge of DII, DIS & HLA (desirable)
  • Experience with VBS3 and terrain generation (desirable)
  • Team player, able to work unsupervised (desirable)
  • Knowledge of terrain databasing and scripting within a VBS environment (desirable)
