Simulations Engineer
Wartsila
As Simulation Engineer, you will apply advanced simulation methods to predict how naval vessels and onboard systems respond to shock, vibration, and acoustics. You will develop and maintain FE models, translate requirements into design constraints, and verify models against test data to support compliance and performance. You will contribute to engineering guidelines and share expertise with cross-functional teams, while ensuring governance and export control compliance. You’ll work in a mission-driven environment focused on lifecycle efficiency and safe, reliable naval solutions. This role offers impact in shaping naval performance through rigorous simulation and analysis.
Responsibilities- Perform dynamic simulations (shock, vibration, modal, acoustic, structural dynamics).
- Develop and maintain Finite Element Analysis models for naval platforms and related systems.
- Translate naval shock and vibration requirements into design constraints.
- Correlate simulation results with physical test data and produce compliance evidence.
- Contribute to design improvements and develop engineering guidelines and knowledge tools.
- Share expertise and support cross-functional project teams.
- Support planning, risk management, governance, and compliance with QEHS and export controls.
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace, Marine Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in structural dynamics, shock physics, vibroacoustic, FEA or related simulation discipline.
- Experience using simulation tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, or similar.
- Experience in naval/defence or maritime environments beneficial; transferable experience accepted.
- Strong technical reporting, planning and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance.
- Strong communication in English (written and spoken).
- Stakeholder collaboration and relationship-building.
- Analytical and problem-solving with evidence-based decisions.
- Structural dynamics
- Shock physics
- Vibroacoustic
