Site Reliability Engineer

Akkodis

Stevenage · England · United Kingdom

Akkodis is a global leader in engineering, technology, and R&D, harnessing the power of connected data to drive digital transformation and innovation for a smarter, more sustainable future.

Part of the Adecco Group and combining the expertise of AKKA and Modis, Akkodis brings together over 50,000 engineers and digital specialists across 30 countries in North America, EMEA, and APAC, with deep cross-sector knowledge in mobility, software services, robotics, simulation, cybersecurity, AI, and data analytics.

Across four service lines — Consulting, Solutions, Talents, and Academy — we support clients from concept through to full-scale deployment and optimisation, helping organisations rethink product development, accelerate productivity, and reduce time-to-market.

You will join a dynamic environment that values continuous learning, global collaboration, and meaningful impact through innovative projects.

Role Overview:

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will establish reliability engineering as a core capability across multiple Akkodis programmes, improving observability, consolidating monitoring platforms, strengthening operational resilience, and embedding proactive reliability and DevSecOps practices across cloud and hybrid environments.

Working across Azure and AWS, the role will drive the transition from reactive incident management to preventative reliability engineering through effective monitoring, automation, security-by-design principles, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and operational excellence frameworks.

Acting as the reliability authority across programmes, you will lead monitoring and observability consolidation, define and maintain SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, optimise alerting frameworks, and design a target observability architecture providing a unified operational view across Azure and AWS.

We are looking for an engineer who thinks beyond incident resolution and operational firefighting — someone who can build and mature monitoring, observability, reliability, and security capabilities from the ground up, challenge existing approaches, drive standardisation, and create sustainable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Reliability Engineering & SLOs

  • Define, implement, and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
  • Establish reliability reporting, operational governance, and preventative reliability engineering practices across programmes.
  • Drive improvements in system availability, performance, security, and operational effectiveness.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Review and inventory dashboards, telemetry sources, alerts, thresholds, integrations, and reporting.
  • Validate monitoring coverage against alert reference catalogues.
  • Design a target observability architecture providing a unified view across Azure and AWS.
  • Maximise existing monitoring, analytics, and licensing investments.
  • Rationalise and tune alerting frameworks to improve signal quality.
  • Eliminate duplicate, noisy, and non-actionable alerts.
  • Design actionable alerts with clear ownership and remediation guidance.
  • Implement preventative measures to reduce recurring incidents.

Cloud Platform Reliability

  • Support operational excellence across Azure and AWS environments.
  • Optimise infrastructure, applications, networking, storage, and database services for resilience, scalability, and performance.
  • Contribute to cloud governance, cost optimisation, and operational readiness.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Design, develop, and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
  • Drive automation and self-healing capabilities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

DevSecOps & Security

  • Embed security-by-design principles into engineering and operational processes.
  • Integrate vulnerability scanning, compliance validation, secrets management, and policy enforcement into deployment pipelines.
  • Support security monitoring and continuous compliance improvement.

Platform Integration

  • Contribute to VDI, Cloud PC, and end-user computing monitoring integration.
  • Improve operational visibility across applications, infrastructure, networking, databases, and end-user services.

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in the primary on-call rotation following onboarding and training.
  • Support incident investigation, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineering, cloud, security, and operations teams to define reliability, availability, performance, and security objectives.
  • Drive continuous service improvement across programmes.

Required Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, DevSecOps, Cloud Engineering, or Production Operations.
  • Strong observability and operational intelligence expertise across Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, KQL, AWS CloudWatch, and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tooling.
  • Strong Microsoft Azure knowledge, including Virtual Machines, networking, storage, Entra ID, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, PaaS offerings, and Azure security and governance services.
  • Strong AWS knowledge, including EC2, Auto Scaling, load balancers, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, Route 53, Transit Gateway, Security Groups, VPN, Direct Connect, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Athena, QuickSight, IAM, Security Hub, and GuardDuty.
  • Experience defining, implementing, and managing SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and reliability reporting frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience with Git-based source control platforms such as GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, or GitLab, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
  • Experience supporting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or equivalent.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, hybrid cloud environments, and application and infrastructure performance issues.
  • Experience embedding DevSecOps practices, including secure-by-design principles, vulnerability management, security monitoring, compliance automation, secrets management, and security controls within CI/CD pipelines.

Required Skills

  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, and Bash.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systems-thinking mindset.
  • Ability to rationalise and tune large alert estates to improve signal quality and incident response effectiveness.
  • Ability to define monitoring standards, alerting strategies, and operational governance frameworks.
  • Understanding of reliability engineering principles, including error budgets, toil reduction, and self-healing automation.
  • Strong incident management, root cause analysis, and post-incident review capabilities.
  • Ability to influence engineering teams, drive standardisation, and challenge existing approaches to improve operational maturity.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical, operational, and customer organisations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to participate in the primary on-call rotation following onboarding and training.
  • Experience working across complex multi-cloud environments spanning Azure and AWS.
  • Experience with Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud (PDC).
  • Terraform Cloud or Terraform Enterprise.
  • OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing.
  • Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, AWS Security Hub, and GuardDuty.
  • Azure Policy, AWS Config, SonarQube, Snyk, and Checkov.
  • FinOps and cloud cost optimisation.
  • VDI, Cloud PC, or end-user computing monitoring solutions.
  • Experience working in regulated, mission-critical, government, defence, or security-sensitive environments.
