Site Reliability Engineer I - Connex

Overview

In this role you ensure the reliability of mission-critical payment applications within Vocalink’s UK infrastructure. You work in a cross-functional, agile team to support production systems, implement fixes, and drive automation and improvements. Your focus is on DR readiness, incident response, and scalable operations that align with corporate strategy. This is a hands-on position offering exposure to modern tech and a direct impact on a nationwide payments ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Provide second-line support for mission-critical applications while honoring service priorities and standards
• Support live production environments, including 24/7 on-call participation
• Deliver hotfixes, tooling improvements, and system housekeeping
• Contribute to application design, delivery, and technical consultancy within a Scrum team
• Manage changes, releases, and fixes per governance processes
• Support and maintain Disaster Recovery capabilities, including testing and risk management
• Collaborate with third-party suppliers for issue resolution and escalation
• Ensure traceability from business requirements through to acceptance criteria
• Maintain up-to-date technical documentation and artefacts
• Drive innovation in production support and automation opportunities
• Contribute to production support strategy and roadmap, including technology selection
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement effective solutions
• Participate in iterative, Agile deployments as part of a Scrum team (SAFE)
• Investigate production issues and perform root cause analysis

• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems under pressure
• Experience in financial services or payments environments
• Understanding of ITIL practices, change, and release management
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and team-based delivery
• Knowledge of programming or web technologies is an advantage
