Overview
In this role you will design and implement automated test solutions for device software and hardware–software interfaces in Medtronic’s DTBU, supporting safe, reliable embedded systems in the OR. You collaborate with software, hardware, and firmware teams to embed quality throughout the lifecycle and advance automation for edge devices, IoT gateways, and firmware updates. The position offers hands-on testing in a mission-driven environment focused on safer surgery and scalable test frameworks.

- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for device software
- Collaborate with software engineers to define test scenarios and architectures
- Develop and execute test automation strategies for embedded and edge systems
- Create test plans for REST/IPC, WebUI, and OTA updates
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines with automated quality gates
- Document test standards and best practices for QA
- Validate device performance and connectivity under real-world conditions
- Frequent on-site presence in London (3–5 days/week)
- Bachelor or equivalent in CS/Engineering or related field
- Minimum 3 years of software automation and test development experience (or 2+ years with advanced degree)
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or equivalent
- Hands-on with test management tools and automation frameworks (Selenium, Appium, Espresso)
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Knowledge of Android/Linux device OS
- SOA/API testing (REST, IPC)
- Experience testing embedded or connected hardware (edge/IoT)
- Understanding of hardware–software interaction and debugging
- Familiarity with firmware validation and OTA updates
- Strong, self-starting, quality-driven mindset
- Experience with embedded device software, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and device connectivity (USB, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth)
- Familiarity with medical device standards (IEC 62304) is a plus
