Software Development Engineer in Test

In this role you will design and maintain automated quality and delivery systems for a new Electron-based desktop platform. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to improve developer feedback, automate release processes, and ensure reliable customer releases. The position blends test automation, build and release engineering, and troubleshooting within a hybrid Sheffield-based team. You’ll contribute to shaping a scalable desktop platform that enhances Windows experiences for Autodesk customers.

• Develop and maintain automated tests (functional, integration, end-to-end, installer, upgrade, regression) and expand coverage for new features
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or similar tools, automating build, test, packaging, and artifact creation
• Automate Windows packaging, code signing, publishing, installation validation, upgrades, and release-candidate qualification
• Investigate failures across build, test, installer, and app layers; reproduce issues and drive root-cause analysis
• Execute testing when automation is unavailable or for exploratory validation; document test plans and risk areas
• Build reusable test utilities, data, and automation components; create automated Windows test environments using VMs or reproducible infra
• Participate in release-readiness activities, bug triage, and risk assessment; monitor results and distinguish defects from test/infra issues
• Improve flaky tests and unreliable pipeline stages to enhance developer feedback and product quality
• Document build, test, and release procedures for broader engineering use
• Collaborate with software, product, and infrastructure teams to improve quality and productivity

• Bachelor in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience with software development or test automation using Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, PowerShell, C#, Java, or similar
• Experience developing automated tests for software applications
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, CloudBees CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
• Understanding of Git and common software development workflows
• Ability to troubleshoot software, test automation, build, and environment issues
• Understanding of functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing practices
