Software Development Manager

In this hands-on leadership role, you will guide a software development team to translate technical strategy into reliable delivery and engineering standards. You’ll balance people leadership with technical direction to modernise our integration landscape and build reusable .NET services and APIs. You’ll work cross-functionally, coaching developers and ensuring live services remain stable while implementing secure, observable, and scalable systems. This is a chance to shape engineering practices within a collaborative Technology team.

• Lead and develop permanent software developers across Integration Services, including regular 1:1s, objective setting and performance management
• Own recruitment, onboarding, retention and succession planning for the developer community
• Build capability aligned to target architecture and delivery pipeline, filling skills gaps with learning opportunities
• Provide input through code/design reviews, pairing, and problem-solving using strong C#/.NET expertise
• Define and maintain engineering standards, CI/CD, automated testing, security, observability and operational readiness
• Establish responsible standards for AI-assisted development including validation and data handling
• Improve developer tooling, source control, pipelines and work tracking
• Lead Agile delivery across squads with planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives, coaching for greater delivery leadership
• Support Head of Integration Services with allocation of developers across business-as-usual and project work
• Monitor squad health, capacity, dependencies and risks with clear reporting and cross-stakeholder coordination
• Own deployment, standards and implementation quality within approved architecture with collaboration across architects, senior developers and product owners
• Escalate architecture, security, data, commercial or delivery issues to accountable owners

• Substantial experience as a senior/lead developer or technical team lead
• Proven line or team leadership, including coaching and performance conversations
• Deep, current C# and .NET 10+ expertise, including ASP.NET Core and Web API
• Strong API and microservice engineering, and event-driven delivery with Azure Service Bus, Kafka or equivalent
• Practical CI/CD, automated testing, Git, secure development and production support experience
• Working knowledge of containers and infrastructure as code, with collaborative platform decision-making
