Software Engineer

Overview

As a Mid-Level Software Engineer at Smarkets, you design, develop, and maintain services powering business operations products. You collaborate with engineering managers, tech leaders, and product managers to drive complex, roadmap-aligned projects. You’ll help build a unified, high-performing system while advancing code quality, testing, and CI/CD practices. You contribute to a merit-based, collaborative culture and shape the future of our betting trading technology. • Design, implement and maintain features using Python and Rust
• Add alerting/monitoring to keep services stable
• Write tests and review merge requests to improve code quality
• Improve engineering processes, including CI/CD
• Mentor direct teammates on technical work
• Collaborate with Product and other engineering teams on complex, goal-aligned projects
• Model and showcase best practices in implementation with a forward-looking mindset

• 4+ years of software engineering experience
• Familiarity with Python or a compiled language (Java, C++, Rust, Go) and interest in Rust
• Experience building distributed systems in a modern cloud environment
• Experience with DevOps stacks/tools (GitLab, Kubernetes)
• Experience with message queues (e.g., Apache Kafka) and SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience in Sports Betting or Finance industries
• Strong English communication and collaboration skills
