Microlise is seeking a Software Engineer to help develop and maintain technology that supports the transport and logistics industry. In this role, you will contribute to software used by customers to improve the visibility, efficiency, and safety of their operations. You will work with colleagues across engineering, product, quality assurance, and customer-facing teams to deliver reliable solutions and continually improve the customer experience.

About The Company

Microlise develops technology for organisations operating in transport, logistics, and supply chain management. Its solutions help businesses connect vehicles, drivers, depots, and operational systems, providing information that can support better planning and decision-making. The company works with customers across a range of industries and focuses on combining practical industry knowledge with software and data capabilities. At Microlise, teams collaborate to solve complex operational challenges and build technology designed for use in demanding, real-world environments.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and support of software products and services. You will work on features and improvements from initial requirements through release, balancing technical quality with usability, performance, and maintainability. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and stakeholders, share ideas, and take part in discussions about how to deliver effective solutions. The role is suited to someone who is curious, methodical, and motivated to build dependable software that supports customers’ day-to-day operations.

Depending on the team’s priorities, your work may involve developing application features, integrating services, improving existing code, investigating defects, and contributing to technical documentation. You will follow established development practices while looking for sensible opportunities to improve them. You will also consider how software behaves in production and help ensure that changes are tested, understandable, and ready to be supported.

Qualifications

You will have experience developing software in a professional, academic, or substantial project environment, and a sound understanding of core programming principles. Familiarity with one or more modern programming languages and development frameworks is expected. You should understand version control, testing approaches, and the importance of readable, maintainable code. Experience with databases, APIs, cloud platforms, or distributed systems would be beneficial, though the specific technologies may vary between teams.

We are looking for clear communicators who can work constructively with others, ask thoughtful questions, and explain technical ideas in an accessible way. You should be comfortable investigating problems, prioritising work, and adapting when requirements change. A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience may be helpful, but we value demonstrated capability, learning mindset, and a genuine interest in software engineering.

Responsibilities

You will design, build, test, and maintain software components in line with team standards and product requirements. You will review requirements, break work into manageable tasks, and raise questions or risks early. You will write automated tests where appropriate, participate in code reviews, and respond constructively to feedback. You will investigate and resolve defects, contribute to root-cause analysis, and help protect the reliability and performance of services.

You will collaborate with product and engineering colleagues to plan and deliver improvements, document relevant decisions, and support the release of changes. You will also keep your technical knowledge current, share learning with the team, and contribute to a respectful, improvement-focused engineering culture.

Benefits

Microlise offers the opportunity to work on technology with practical impact across transport and logistics. You will be part of a collaborative environment where professional development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are encouraged. Benefits and working arrangements may vary by location and role; the recruitment team can provide details about the package, learning opportunities, and any applicable flexible-working options.

Equal Opportunity

Microlise is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment. Applicants will be considered based on their skills, experience, and suitability for the role, without discrimination on grounds protected by applicable law. We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds and perspectives. If you require an adjustment during the recruitment process, please contact the hiring team so that appropriate support can be discussed.
