Software Engineer

Generative Group

London · England · United Kingdom

About the company

This early-stage European defence technology company is building AI-powered software to help plan and run military operations in harsh, disconnected environments. Its platform supports logistics, operational planning and decision-making when connectivity, computing power and access to cloud infrastructure are limited.

The company’s mission is to ensure that personnel protecting European democracies have access to the best available technology. Its work combines edge-first software, offline data systems and carefully designed AI capabilities, with a strong focus on safety, reliability and trust in operationally critical settings.

Backed by leading European venture investors, the company is developing its initial platform with feedback from UK defence organisations and is expanding across the UK and Germany. Its values include intellectual ambition, ownership, thoughtful engineering and a commitment to supporting defence operations responsibly.

What the job entails

As a Software Engineer, you will help turn an early prototype into a robust, production-ready platform for military planning and logistics. This is a core platform role with a broad full-stack remit, working closely with the founding team and AI researchers in an ambitious, highly collaborative environment.

You will design, build and deploy applications using TypeScript and React, alongside backend APIs, databases, data models and service architecture. Your work will include developing systems that operate in restricted, intermittent or disconnected environments; supporting local-first data reconciliation across devices; and helping deploy AI capabilities on-device or on-premises.

You will contribute to system design and architecture, collaborate on complex logistics and recommendation problems, and ensure that deployed software is secure, reliable and maintainable. The role is primarily engineering-focused, although you will have opportunities to understand customer feedback and operational needs. The position is based mainly on-site, with London, Berlin and Munich locations possible.

Key requirements / What we look for

  • 2–7 years’ experience, ideally around five, in full-stack or production software engineering.

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related subject.

  • Strong frontend and backend capability; TypeScript and React experience preferred.

  • Experience with APIs, databases, data modelling, service architecture and production deployments.

  • At least one year contributing to system design or architecture.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerisation.

  • High autonomy, intellectual curiosity and comfort in an ambiguous early-stage environment.

  • A clear strength in machine learning, distributed/local-first systems, or edge and restricted-environment engineering.

  • Comfort supporting defence-related logistics and operational planning.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of £90,000–£160,000.

  • Meaningful equity, typically 0.25%–1.5%, depending on experience and contribution.

  • Free lunch, snacks, coffee and a collaborative Covent Garden office environment.

  • Dedicated learning and development budget.

  • On-site Monday to Thursday, with Fridays potentially remote.
