Software Engineer

Socium

Manchester · England · United Kingdom

Up to £60,000 | Remote - If you're located near an office, we'd like you to be up for going in for mentorship occasionally, but we are remote-first.

You can take a piece of development work, break it down and make progress. You’re ready for more responsibility, and you want experienced engineers around you to help you get there.

I’m working with a technology business looking for a Software Engineer who wants to develop towards a senior role over the next 18–24 months.

There’s a recent example of that progression: this opportunity has opened because someone in the team has just stepped into a senior position.

You’ll bring a solid engineering foundation. They’ll provide mentoring, coaching and opportunities to take on more complex work as your confidence and capability grow.

What you’ll be doing

  • Building features and API integrations across new and existing systems.
  • Taking responsibility for pieces of work, from understanding the problem through to testing and deployment.
  • Improving existing code and tackling technical debt alongside new development.
  • Working with Product, QA and experienced engineers to discuss approaches, review code and solve problems.

What they’re looking for

You’ll have experience building software with C# and .NET, and be comfortable finding your way around an existing codebase.

Given a defined problem, you can ask questions, work through an approach and move it forward. You also recognise when another perspective would help and ask for support.

You care about readable, maintainable code, respond well to feedback and want to understand the reasoning behind technical decisions.

Tech you’ll be around

C#, modern .NET, Azure, SQL Server, EF Core and Cosmos DB, with TypeScript, Node.js and React across the wider platform. Automated testing, CI/CD and infrastructure as code are part of how the team works.

You don’t need experience with every tool. Strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn matter more.

Why it’s worth a move

The focus is on helping you build the judgement, technical depth and delivery experience needed for a senior position.

The aim is to work towards that over 18–24 months, with progression based on your development and impact.

Alongside the support, there’s up to £60,000, remote working with one office day per quarter, 25 days’ annual leave, private medical insurance and dedicated training time.
