Software Engineer – Python

Nottingham | Hybrid

£45,000 – £60,000

Python | Linux | CI/CD | Infrastructure as Code

Are you a Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems rather than simply building another web application?

We’re working with an established UK technology business looking to add a Software Engineer to its growing engineering team. You’ll be joining an environment where software engineering, research and infrastructure come together, working on technically challenging projects with genuine real-world applications.

This would particularly suit an engineer with strong Python fundamentals who enjoys understanding how things work under the hood and wants exposure beyond traditional backend/web development.

What you'll be doing

• Designing, developing and maintaining software primarily using Python

• Working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through to testing and delivery

• Building robust, maintainable and well-tested software using modern engineering practices

• Developing automation and tooling to support software deployment and infrastructure

• Working with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code

• Developing and integrating APIs and working with files, data and external systems

• Working within Linux-based environments

• Collaborating with experienced Software Engineers on new and existing projects

• Contributing to technical design discussions and solving complex engineering problems

• Gaining exposure to research-led and technically varied project work

What we're looking for

You don't need to tick every box, but you'll ideally bring:

• Commercial software development experience with strong Python knowledge

• Solid core Python fundamentals beyond framework-specific development

• Experience designing and developing maintainable, testable software

• An understanding of object-oriented design and common software design principles

• Experience with automated testing / Test-Driven Development

• Exposure to APIs and integration-based development

• Familiarity with Linux environments

• Understanding of Git and modern development workflows

• Exposure to CI/CD, automated pipelines or Infrastructure as Code

• A genuine interest in solving technical problems and continuing to broaden your engineering skill set

Experience with cloud technologies, DevOps tooling, containers or infrastructure automation would be particularly useful, although we're equally interested in Software Engineers looking to develop further in these areas.

Why consider it?

This isn't a role where you'll be limited to maintaining the same application or framework.

You'll have the opportunity to work across software development, automation, infrastructure and R&D-led projects while learning from an experienced engineering team. There's plenty of scope to broaden your technical knowledge, take ownership of your work and continue progressing as the team grows.

You'll be joining an established organisation operating within a specialist technology environment where the software being developed has genuine purpose and long-term application.

If you're a Python Software Engineer looking for technically varied work, strong engineering practices and the opportunity to keep developing your skill set, we'd be keen to hear from you.
