Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to developing secure, scalable software for autonomy across defence and technology-focused environments. You will join a newly formed software team and collaborate with engineers, architects, and DevOps specialists to deliver integrated, data-enabled software that supports digital transformation. You’ll shape reusable solutions, drive secure development practices, and participate in innovation and concept proofs. This position offers impact in advancing autonomy capabilities while working in a cross-functional, mission-driven context.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and deploy secure software solutions
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated delivery
• Develop reusable and scalable software capabilities
• Support software products throughout their lifecycle
• Conduct code reviews, debugging and troubleshooting
• Contribute to secure development practices, threat modelling and vulnerability management
• Collaborate with architects, engineers and stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions
• Implement APIs and third-party integrations
• Produce high-quality technical documentation
• Support innovation activities, proofs-of-concepts and continuous improvement initiatives

• Strong C++ development experience or knowledge of equivalent safety-critical programming languages
• Experience developing software on Linux and/or Windows platforms
• Knowledge of Python and modern software engineering practices
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of DevOps, DevSecOps and Agile methodologies
• Experience with cloud technologies, APIs and microservices
• Knowledge of databases such as MySQL, MongoDB or similar
• Experience with autonomy systems integration or autonomous software architectures
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Experience delivering software within defence, aerospace, medical or other regulated environments
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or software discipline
• Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)
