Software Engineer, Edge AI Systems

About the Role

Join a newly formed team building and deploying AI systems designed to run on tactical edge hardware. You will develop models and agents that operate with sensors, effectors, and drone systems in demanding defense environments where connectivity and computing resources may be limited.
What Youll Do

Train and fine-tune language models for edge deployment in defense applications.

Optimize model performance across GPU, CPU, and specialized accelerator hardware.

Design and implement multi-agent systems for mission scenarios.

Connect AI agents with sensors, effectors, and drone systems.

Benchmark and evaluate agent capabilities, performance, and reliability.

Build reliable, secure, and fail-safe systems for high-stakes environments.

What Were Looking For

Typically 4 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including experience designing or architecting systems.

Hands-on experience building and optimizing production LLM or AI-agent systems, including model fine-tuning, agent optimization, or inference optimization.

Strong proficiency in Python, C++, and/or Rust, with experience using tools such as PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, or vLLM.

Experience optimizing AI models and runtime performance for edge hardware; familiarity with tools such as Ollama, Mojo, TVM, or TensorFlow Lite is valuable.

A bachelors degree or higher in computer science or a quantitative field such as physics or mathematics.

Experience developing technically demanding, mission-critical software with high standards for reliability, security, performance, and testing.

Background in defense, aerospace, drones, robotics, applied research, or another rigorous engineering environment; customer-facing or cross-functional experience is also valuable.

Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible for a U.S. security clearance, and authorized to work without visa sponsorship.

Based in Seattle or willing to relocate, with the ability to travel up to 25%.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $145,000 to $275,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location

Hybrid in Palo Alto, California. Candidates should be based in Seattle or willing to relocate.
