Overview

As a Software Engineer III, you develop scalable, high-performance applications in Java and JavaScript within Elsevier’s Identity & Access Management team. You contribute to the authentication and authorization infrastructure that powers a global product suite, leveraging cloud-native platforms on AWS. You will work in an Agile environment, emphasize code quality, testing, and CI/CD, and explore AI-assisted development to design and improve software. This role offers the chance to shape critical security infrastructure and collaborate across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with technical teammates to finalize requirements
  • Draft and review specifications for moderately complex components
  • Translate product requirements into software designs with colleagues
  • Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews
  • Work in diverse development environments (Agile, Waterfall) with stakeholders
  • Utilize GitHub workflows, PRs, issue tracking in distributed or co-located teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Stay updated on new technologies and trends
  • Complete bug fixes
  • Assist with defining and refining system components
Key requirements
  • Proficiency with data manipulation languages
  • Understanding of data modelling
  • Ability to work with complex data models
  • Proficiency in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL
  • Experience with Keycloak, Auth0, or other identity providers including realm configuration and OIDC setup
  • Familiarity with code coverage best practices
  • Ability to write/review specifications for moderate complexity components
  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Knowledge of data storage subsystems and test-driven development
  • Ability to complete moderately complex bug fixes
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools a plus
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
