Software Engineer III - Python
JP Morgan Chase
As a Software Engineer III in JPMorgan Chase’s AI/ML Technology, you will build and ship production software with AI-enabled capabilities, across the full software lifecycle. You will implement backend services in Python, design APIs and microservices, and deliver in a multi-cloud environment using Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD. You’ll work to scale enterprise AI solutions, focusing on reliable, secure, and maintainable systems. This role offers hands-on growth in applied AI engineering within a large financial services context.
Responsibilities- Deliver software through the full software development lifecycle from requirements to production support
- Write maintainable Python with unit/integration tests and diagnose issues across layers
- Implement LLM-driven workflows including prompting, tool calls, routing, and multi-step task orchestration
- Develop inference-time integrations (model gateways, caching, fallbacks, timeouts, concurrency) for production AI systems
- Implement retrieval-augmented generation components (chunking, embeddings, retrieval, grounding)
- Build REST and gRPC endpoints with authentication, input validation, error handling, and secure data handling
- Implement SQL-backed business logic for APIs and microservices (joins, aggregations, filtering, pagination, transactions)
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows; package/deploy services with containers and Kubernetes (safe rollouts/rollbacks)
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code using Terraform across modules/environments/state management
- Improve operability via observability tooling (logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts); participate in incident response and root‑cause analysis
- Utilize enterprise AI coding assist tools to improve code quality; validate outputs via peer review, testing, and secure coding standards
- Apply SDLC toolchain knowledge, including AI-assisted development and automation to increase value of automation
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with applicable experience
- Strong Python backend development experience including testing, packaging, dependency management
- Strong SQL proficiency with relational data and API logic implementation
- Experience building APIs/microservices with REST or gRPC, including security basics and observability
- Practical experience delivering LLM-based features in software systems; familiarity with agentic patterns
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, Git, containers, and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Terraform and multi-cloud cloud concepts
- Solid understanding of SDLC practices (design, reviews, testing, release, production support)
- Hands-on experience with enterprise AI-assisted development tools; ability to critically evaluate/validate AI outputs
- Understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, secure handling and resiliency/security expectations
- Debugging and troubleshooting in distributed systems
- Collaboration in agile delivery; effective estimation and decision documentation
- Communication of risks and decisions; proactive stakeholder engagement
