Overview

In this role, you will help modernise BT Group's network modelling capabilities by building a cloud-based platform that makes modelling tools accessible across the organisation. You will contribute to shifting from desktop tools to scalable web apps and cloud infrastructure, enabling faster decisions on national-scale infrastructure. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable software that supports evolving modelling and optimisation use cases. The opportunity combines software engineering with a tangible, real-world impact.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build a web-based application to host network modelling and optimisation tools
  • Transform desktop tools into scalable, cloud-hosted solutions used across Fixed Networks
  • Set up and maintain cloud infrastructure including VMs, databases and secure environments
  • Develop APIs, data pipelines and integrations to consolidate data sources
  • Embed secure-by-design principles, including IAM and single sign-on
  • Improve code quality, automation and deployment pipelines for reliable, scalable delivery
  • Enhance and evolve existing modelling tools during migration and future platform evolution
  • Contribute to future network modelling, simulations and optimisation work as the platform evolves
Key requirements
  • Python and JavaScript experience (React, NextJS, TypeScript)
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices (CI/CD, automation, version control, testing)
  • Experience with on-prem or private cloud environments and virtual machines
  • Experience with Linux-based environments and system-level troubleshooting
  • Ability to design and work with SQL databases and schema design
  • Awareness of security best practices including IAM and secure development
