Software Engineer, Platform

In this role you will design and implement Scale’s foundational platforms and systems that underpin AI capabilities, working with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure. You will explore state-of-the-art AI techniques within a fast-paced environment and help shape how engineers develop, test, and deploy software at Scale. You’ll drive improvements in development practices and tooling while collaborating with stakeholders to translate complex tech concepts into actionable plans. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge AI programs across enterprises, startups, and government projects.

• Design and implement foundational platforms and systems that form Scale’s baseline capabilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver new features in an iterative lifecycle
• Lead experimentation in AI domains to stay ahead in the team’s field
• Identify opportunities to improve programming practices, processes, and tooling
• Present technical information to teams and stakeholders and provide guidance on development processes

• 5+ years of full-time engineering experience in backend systems
• Experience with highly scalable and reliable distributed systems on public cloud platforms
• Experience building document retrieval and understanding systems (RAG) for ingesting large-scale client knowledge
• Strong track record of independently delivering engineering projects and inspiring others
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, translating complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with containerization and deployment tech (Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker)
• Experience with long-running agent/code orchestration platforms (Temporal)
• Mastery of storing state with PostgreSQL
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD tooling (CircleCI, GitHub Actions)
