Overview

In this role you will build and maintain Wayve’s core driving simulation, enabling realistic, reproducible evaluation of a learned driving system. You will work with cross-functional teams to integrate driving-stack components and vehicle dynamics into a scalable simulation environment. You’ll tackle open-loop evaluation challenges and help improve reliability, observability, and performance of the simulator. This position offers impact by shaping how simulated data informs real-world driving improvements in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain production-quality simulation components using C++ and Python
  • Integrate driving-stack components, simulated robot systems, and vehicle-platform capabilities into the shared simulation environment
  • Support configuration of multiple simulation workflows and ensure correct interactions across components
  • Investigate discrepancies between on-road and simulated execution, diagnosing issues in data, inference, and simulation
  • Improve reproducibility, reliability, and debuggability via automated tests, observability, and tooling
  • Profile and optimize simulator performance to handle larger evaluation workloads
  • Collaborate with internal users and adjacent teams to clarify requirements, resolve integration issues, and implement scoped improvements
  • Contribute to technical designs and improve the maintainability of the simulation codebase
Key requirements
  • Production-grade software development experience in a collaborative engineering environment
  • Strong C++ and Python skills, with depth in at least one and competence in both
  • Experience in simulation, robotics, autonomous systems or similarly complex multi-component systems
  • Understanding of software and data-oriented design for maintainable, reusable, extensible code
  • Experience debugging complex systems and reasoning about interfaces, data flows, timing, and failure modes
  • Awareness of software performance issues and ability to make pragmatic trade-offs
  • Ability to deliver scoped features independently and communicate progress while flagging blockers
  • Experience using GenAI development tools to improve productivity while validating outputs
