In this role you will develop and maintain software for satellite systems within the Platform team, focusing on embedded Linux and cross‑functional hardware integration. You will drive fault-tolerant software, interfaces between embedded and higher‑level processes, and Yocto‑based designs on Xilinx MPSoC systems, supporting a fast, weekly‑to‑monthly design‑to‑launch cadence. This position puts you at the intersection of software and space hardware, contributing to Spire's expanding nanosatellite capabilities. You will collaborate closely with hardware engineers to deliver reliable, end‑to‑end space data solutions.

- Maintain and develop daemons interfacing with embedded systems using low and high level protocols
- Implement communication interfaces between embedded systems and higher‑level processes
- Integrate C libraries for hardware interfaces
- Contribute to fault‑tolerant system design and implementation
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to optimize software‑hardware integration
- Prototype new designs and maintain products with Yocto, focused on Xilinx MPSoC and other systems
- C/C++, Bash and Python
- Proficiency with Yocto framework for app design and base OS modifications including kernel modules
- Linux development environment (Ubuntu)
- Experience with real‑time communication protocols (CAN/UART/SPI/I2C)
- Experience with inter‑process communication protocols (IP‑based)
- Understanding of electronics and ability to communicate with hardware engineers
- Documentation skills
