Software Engineering Lead - Data Technology Platforrms

As Engineering Lead, you guide delivery of high-quality software across multiple teams in Schroders' Asset Management and Data Technology Platforms. You’ll combine hands-on engineering with calm leadership to improve standards, security, and reliability under pressure. You’ll collaborate with product, UX, and enterprise engineering peers to shape scalable, maintainable solutions that drive measurable business value. This role offers influence over architecture, best practices, and cross-team coordination in a fast-paced financial services environment. • Lead development of applications using appropriate technologies for the problem space
• Own and influence software delivery across design, development, testing, release and implementation
• Translate outcomes and user stories into working, maintainable software with business stakeholders
• Prioritise backlogs with Delivery Leads and address technical debt visibility
• Collaborate with UX and product colleagues for intuitive user experiences
• Explain technical options and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Coordinate cross-team dependencies to reduce delivery friction
• Write and maintain infrastructure as code to support CI/CD and consistent environments
• Set and uphold engineering quality through code reviews, security, testing, and ops readiness
• Mentor and manage engineers and partner engineers, fostering capability growth
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to shared standards and reference architectures
• Support maintenance and evolution of a complex platform focusing on stability and business value
• Manage application estate with end-of-life planning, upgrades and vulnerability handling

• Strong expertise in at least one of C#/.Net, Python, Node.js and/or React
• Understanding of engineering principles, architecture patterns, and leading teams
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure for cloud-native development, data services, security, monitoring and integration
• Proven experience with Snowflake as a data platform including modelling and performance optimization
• Design and implement scalable, secure data pipelines across client, CRM, and enterprise platforms
• Identify opportunities to improve onboarding, lifecycle management, data quality and efficiency through automation
• Experience across full software lifecycle in an agile environment
• Experience embedding testability and automated testing to improve quality and delivery
• System-level thinking and collaboration with developers and solution architects
• Strong design skills from client needs to business-domain modelling
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong stakeholder communication
• Ability to communicate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience across multiple initiatives and fostering cross-team collaboration
• Experience in financial services operational functions or regulated environments (helpful)
• Development experience using Azure; familiarity with agile delivery; knowledge of test automation (TDD/BDD/Shift-Left)
• Experience with developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code (or similar)
• Front-end development experience using TypeScript, Next.js, React
